We all have different backgrounds, lifestyles and interests, but to enjoy life to the full our mental and physical wellbeing is paramount to our enjoyment of life. However, sometimes we need to feel inspired, or need a gentle push to take care of ourselves properly and keep fit and healthy.
One of the simplest ways of doing this is by being more active and there is nothing better than going for an exhilarating walk to pump that blood and maintain your overall health. Walking is low impact, requires minimal equipment and best of all it is free.

I adore walking through woods and if you fancy a stroll with your partner, family or friends why not venture to beautiful Beckland Woods on the Hartland Peninsula . From Bideford you travel along the A39 until you see the turning for Hartland and take this route. Travel approximately 1.4 miles and then take the turning that says Hartland point and Lighthouse continuing along this road until you see a signpost for Brownsham which you follow. Eventually you will come to the Brownsham National Trust Car Park and you have reached your destination.

Once at the car park you can embark on a series of circular walks through the lush, green valley and towards the coast. If you are there in April and May you will be greeted with a patchwork of vibrant bluebells which carpet the wood. The sound of the trickling stream ,soothingly fills the air and it creates an atmosphere of calm, peace and tranquillity, whilst the chorus of birds sing their song.
Following the meandering paths through the woods you can take the route which takes you to the vantage point of Windbury Hill on the South West Coastal Path and which was once the home of an Iron Age Fortress. You can sit on the seat high on the cliff and survey the spectacular views and listen to the roaring sea, pounding the rocks below. In the distance you can see the wonderful, natural formation of Blackchurch Rock, which stands proudly on the beach at Mouth Mill.
